Project Gigabit South Wiltshire– Exciting news for Steeple Langford Parish
In March 2024, Wessex Internet was awarded a new contract under the UK government’s Project Gigabit programme, to enable hard-to-reach communities to access gigabit-capable broadband. This contract will put around 14,500 properties in South Wiltshire in the digital fast lane.
Thanks to this Project Gigabit funding, a number of properties in Steeple Langford and Hanging Langford will be given access to gigabit-capable full fibre broadband direct to their home or business premises and be eligible for a free installation from Wessex Internet. In addition, we have commercial plans to roll out full fibre to many additional properties in the area that were not included in the contract.
The Project Gigabit contract is a five-year contract. Since we were awarded the contract in March 2024, we have been working on the scoping and planning of our fibre routes and work is expected to start in September 2024. We are expanding our existing network in the Wylye Valley, moving across the Salisbury Plain and connecting villages surrounding Amesbury to the east and going as far north as Chisbury and Little Bedwyn.
