EM13 Rural parish council report – May 2024

There has been a series of courier fraud incidents this month. These frauds have begun with a fraudster calling potential victims and pretending to be a Police Officer investigating a fraud; they then ask the victim to withdraw money. Please remember:

–              Police will never ask you to withdraw money or for any sensitive personal details such as bank information.

–              The caller may suggest hanging up and calling 101/999 to verify their identity. However, they remain on the line so that when you try to make this call you’re still talking to the suspect or an accomplice. Please end the call, wait at least 15 minutes, then call 101/999.

–              If you are not sure, speak to family or friends for advice.

–              Please report suspicious calls to police.

101 is available for advice as well as reporting, so if you’re unsure about suspicious calls or anything else, please call and ask for police advice. As always emergencies or ongoing crimes and incidents should be reported via 999.
